Getting Started Entering Data With PatentMarking
PatentMarking allows you to search and enter patent to product data. As you are using the system, you may have information that has not yet been recorded. Adding information for companies, products, and patents is easy to do!
You'll just need to log in, search for a company, product, or patent, and add your information.
Logging In
To log into PatentMarking, you may simply click on the "LOGIN" button on the right side of the top menu bar.
If you already have an account, just enter your username and password, and click login. Otherwise, you'll need to apply for a free account by checking the "New User" box and filling in the required information.
Searching
Searches in PatentMarking can be entered into the large search box. You may search for companies, products, and patents using the same search box.
Search results are shown divided into two categories: products and companies. On the larger, left side of the screen you will find products that matched your search terms and on the right side you will find matching companies.
It is important to pay attention to the status of the products and companies you find. This represents the integrity of the data and if you may modify it. Observed content may be modified by any logged in user. Validated content is only modifiable by an Ocean Tomo authorized entity, and Reported content may only be modified by a representative of that company.
Adding Information
From the search results page, you can add various kinds of data by clicking on the results you have found.
To add a new product to a company you found, simply click on the company name and enter in the relevant data fields.
While there are several fields displayed, only the product name is requred to add your product. You may also go back and modify the product data at a later time if you are not sure of all the details.
Once your product has been added to the system, it is ready to have patents assigned to it. Just click on the product name and look to the right side of the page for the patent # field.
PatentMarking's integration with OTI.com provides dynamic patent search validation as you enter your patent number. Select the correct result, and click the Add button.
Adding products and patents are easy, but require an existing company to assign to. To make this easier, PatentMarking has been pre-populated with over 83,000 companies. However, if you know of a company that is not currently in the system you may report it, similar to how you may report products and patents. From the company search results, click the "Can't find a company?" link below the search results, enter the company name, and submit it for approval.
